The town of Assisi is located in the province of Perugia located on the western flank of Mount Subasio. The city, however, is famous throughout Italy to be the city where were born, lived and died St. Francis patron of Italy and St. Clare. Numerous archaeological findings indicate that Assisi should be born from a small village inhabited by Umbrians already in the period Villanoviano. The city has developed behind the territories controlled by the Etruscans in fact ended up under their power until 295 BC when thanks to Sentino battle of the Romans imposed their domination also in central Italy. For Asisium so named by the Romans was a prosperous period becoming an important economic and social center of the Roman Empire. His name has origins prelatine and retaining un'incerta etymology, is interpreted in two different ways: city of hawk dell'astore or from the base Latin bones or stream with obvious reference to river Assino.
